Breaking Up With Sweet Treats

We all love a piece of cake or candy now and then. They are delicious and easily accessible. However, sugar can be one of the main reasons that you are not losing weight.

If your goal is to leave the sweets in 2018, take a look at our 5 tips below.

1. Identify why

Looking at why you indulge so often is one of the most important steps to leaving your bad habit in the past. Do you reach for the candy when you are stressed or grab a cookie when you are feeling bored. While this may bring temporary relief, fails to address the root of the problem, while setting your health back.

Look at your habits and identify when you tend to go for sugary snacks. Once you have that information, you can choose something positive to replace it with, like taking a walk or having a glass of water.

2. Watch what you drink

What we drink can become an issue more often than we might think. Juices, sports drinks, soda, and even you morning coffee can be loaded with just as much sugar as a candy bar.

Stick to water as often as possible and keep an eye on how much sugar you are drinking on a daily basis.

3. Keep it out of the house

One of the easiest ways to avoid a sugar rush is to keep it out of your house. Doing this will help to limit the amount of sugar you consume in a day. But be careful, some common grocery items can have a lot more sugar than you would think.

4. Replace candy with fruit

Swapping out sugary treats with fresh fruit can be a great way to reduce calories and develop healthier habits. However, not all fruit is created equal. Stick to foods like apples which have just 10.45 g of sugar. This can help to satisfy your sweet tooth in a guilt free way.

While it may be difficult to start this change, it is a big step in working towards a healthy lifestyle.
