6 Tips to Stay Active During Your Next Vacation

Many people workout to prepare for an upcoming vacation. However, going on a trip can become a setback in your fitness journey. Oftentimes we overindulge on treats, or fail to workout all together. This can lead to a difficult adjustment period when you return home.

Luckily, there are ways to enjoy your trip, and stay healthy at the same time.

Combine the following tips with the health benefits of taking time off (like reduced stress and improved relationships!) to experience a vacation that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and ready to go.

1. Locate the hotel gym

When checking into your hotel, or even when you book your trip, take a look at the gym space. Many hotels that you travel to will have gyms with cardio equipment, weights, and a few machines. This is a great way to continue with your current routine, although you may have to make a few slight modifications.

2. Pack what you need

Remember to bring workout clothes, sneakers, headphones, a water bottle, and anything else you may need to exercise. You can also include lightweight equipment like resistance bands, that will add to your workout without taking up space in your suitcase.

3. Pool based exercises

If you are a fan of the pool at Echelon, you may be in luck. Many hotels offer indoor pools where you can swim laps, walk, or perform exercises at reduced resistance. Try to visit early in the morning to avoid children who may be splashing around. Some hotels even have adult only hours that are great for working out.

4. Bodyweight exercises

Sometimes on a jam packed trip, you may not have an opportunity for a full workout. Check out this 20 minute routine that you can sneak in at any point of your trip here.

5. Walk to your destination

Traveling to a new city usually includes sightseeing. As often as possible, try walking to your destination to burn off some extra calories. This is also a great way to see some hidden gems that you could miss while driving in a car.

6. New Experiences

The best way to make exercise on vacation more enjoyable is to try something new. Experience all that your destination has to offer with activities like rock climbing, yoga on the beach, or skiing. These activities may even become one of the highlights of your trip.
